Mapping the High Road

At the Berkshire Natural Resources Council, I was tasked with addressing the collection, display, and evaluation of data related to the High Road trail network project. This included creating maps for working groups to collaborate on during meetings, maps for volunteers who evaluated trail connections, and maps to inform the public on the project’s development.

A Storymap of Progress

Below is the story map I developed with input from Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation and BNRC, showcasing progress on the high road using both static and an interactive map at the end. The story was built in ESRI’s Story Map program, while the interactive map was built using Mapbox GL JS.

A Big Map for a Big Project

The map to the right uses information collected by volunteers who I trained to collect information on trails, roads, amenities, and barriers in early High Road planning. The full map was designed to be used by volunteers themselves, working groups, stakeholders, and eventually the public. I designed every facet of this map and the underlying geodatabase using ESRI products: ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcGIS Pro. Templates for new data were developed to better organize and collect new trail and amenity data. This map specifically was designed to be printed at 24” by 36”, but I also developed templates for smaller printable versions of the map for flexibility.
